Part 8: THE ENGLISH NET
Summary of the previous part:
Jimini HOLMES and Cindy WATSON are invited to the presentation of the
UNIMOG 3000 armored truck, from the company Transform & Protect.
They meet Captain COOK, the officer in charge of the convoy that was attacked in Afghanistan and where HOLMES' nephew was seriously injured in one of these trucks...
Suddenly, the Captain is shot down in front of them. In a last whisper, he tells HOLMES that what happened in Afghanistan was just a publicity stunt for Transform & Protect.
MATHEIOS informs following this murder what the Listenburger intelligence knows: Thanks to Bill HANSKAR who, under the guise of a reporter, is in fact an agent of the Listenburger services, he was supposed to follow the tests of the UNIMOG 3000 in Afghanistan. They have doubts about the safety of the truck's cabin, which normally should not have created this drama...
Jimini HOLMES accompanies MATHEIOS the next day to see the representative of Transform & Protect,
Mr CHAPORT, in his factory.
And there, Jimini accuses CHAPORT: it is him who had the idea to stage an attack to prove the quality of protection of the truck UNIMOG 3000 with as intermediary the Captain COOK who was in the confidence. This would have allowed to make a fantastic publicity of the quality of protection of the cabin... But that did not take place as planned: there were two wounded, one of which was serious...
CHAPORT confirms what HOLMES has just said, but Captain COOK was not to be shot. He explains to him that since this tragedy, Prince Transvap SINGH RAJA has negotiated to lower the prices of the 5.000 trucks ordered by India...
Jimini HOLMES deduced that it was Prince Transvap SINGH RAJA who had to sabotage the system of doors and straps of the cabin to negotiate the price of these trucks downwards!
